In our opinion, the R8 is a departure from many of Sage’s previous spey rod families for a few reasons.
The handle is a bit thinner. This fits in the hand beautifully and gives the rod more feel and sensitivity during the cast.
The rods aren’t super fast. Say whaaat? That’s right. Some of the models are (labeled “most powerful”) quite fast with intention, but not across the board. The lighter rods and the all-purpose models are moderate in action and a joy to cast and fish.
The color and finish on the Sage R8 Spey Rods is gorgeous and has a stunning high-end look and feel.
