The Tonic Switch is Beulah’s shorter Skagit style shooting head, designed for spey casting sink tips and large flies with switch rods and shorter two handed rods.
We’ve fished extensively with these lines for steelhead and can provide a few observations. The Tonic head’s loops are very durable and hold up better than most. The relatively shorter length was originally designed for switch rods but has been very popular as an all around Skagit head for rods in the 12′ to 13′ 6″ range as well. The line does have a continuous taper, so that larger diameter line is always turning over smaller diameter line, smoothly transferring energy from the rod to the sink tip and fly.
The 400 grain Tonic Switch Skagit head is 22.5 feet long and well suited for most 6 weight switch rods.
