Women’s Intro to Fly Fishing Class

June 5 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Women’s Intro to Fly Fishing is a four hour, two-part class that covers the essentials you need to get started, a few basic knots and setups, and fundamental fly casting.

The first session begins at 9:00 am at the shop and is about 1.5 hours. We’ll have the essential equipment, tackle, and tools on hand as we go over what you’ll need to get set up to go fishing. We’ll show you the basic knots you’ll need to know, and how to set up your leader, tippet, and flies for success. We’ll be working out way down an itemized list with simple illustrations that you’ll get to take home as a reference sheet. The goal is for you to be able to more easily understand and absorb information as you move forward learning and researching on your own.

For the second session we’ll carpool / caravan to Farewell Bend Park to learn and practice sound casting fundamentals. We’ll teach you traditional dry fly casting, and help you form good habits. The goal of the casting session is for you to develop a basic understanding of how the rod and line work together to present the fly. Casting is done on the grass rather than on the water, as we’ll have more room to spread out and have plenty of space. We use brightly colored yarn for casting practice instead of flies, so there is no risk of anyone getting accidentally hooked. We’ll provide fly rods, or feel free to bring your own.

$100 / person, max 6
